Live News, Real Voices:
My Journey in Broadcast Journalism

During my time at SMC Radio, I had the opportunity to produce and host live news segments that connected campus life with current events. From breaking headlines to local updates, I combined fact-based reporting with confident delivery, refining my skills in scriptwriting, live hosting, and studio production. These broadcasts reflect my commitment to keeping audiences informed, engaged, and inspired through professional on-air storytelling. This page showcases my growth as a news anchor and audio producer, and my potential to lead content in real-world media environments.

The Challenge

In a fast-paced media landscape, delivering relevant, engaging, and accurate news to a student audience requires more than just reading headlines. The challenge was to create a live news segment that felt both professional and personal—bridging national issues with student perspectives, all while working within the limitations of a college radio environment.

Creative Approach

I treated each segment like a live newsroom. I crafted tight scripts that prioritized clarity, urgency, and tone while integrating original voiceover and curated music beds to establish mood. Instead of generic updates, I focused on issues that directly impacted student life—like tuition hikes, mental health services, and pop culture moments on campus—making each segment relatable and emotionally resonant.

Execution

Using SMC Radio’s broadcast studio, I recorded and hosted news breaks with pro-grade audio equipment and real-time monitoring. I engineered the segments myself, handled pacing and timing, and scheduled distribution for maximum listener reach. Each episode was mixed down, branded with consistent sonic IDs, and archived to demonstrate continuity and growth across my on-air work.
